Membranes and coverings

Understand the options, identify what to check and prepare a request for your building.

TPO, EPDM, PVC: what changes?

TPO and PVC are thermoplastic membranes with typically heat-welded seams. EPDM is a synthetic rubber with system-specific seaming methods. Colour alone does not identify a membrane. Before a repair, locate its product information and check repair compatibility, the substrate and attachment details.

Modified bitumen or tar and gravel?

Modified-bitumen roofs often use two plies; built-up roofs combine bituminous plies with aggregate protection. Compare the complete assembly and removal scope, not just the visible covering. Insulation condition, drainage slope and connections matter alongside the material.

Can a liquid coating avoid replacement?

A liquid coating needs a compatible, prepared and sufficiently sound substrate. It does not restore rotten decking or saturated insulation. Ask about adhesion testing, prerequisite repairs, connection details and limitations. The proposal should distinguish maintenance, restoration and replacement.

Shingles, steel, aluminium or copper?

These coverings require different slopes and installation details. Compare weight, noise, corrosion, fasteners, maintenance and connections. Architectural shingles differ from traditional shingles in construction. For a low-slope roof, first check the product and underlayment limitations rather than choosing solely by appearance.
