Roof junctions deserve as much attention as the main surface. Plan an assessment of flashings, copings and penetrations for a coherent waterproofing system.
Identify the affected detail
Walls, chimneys, plumbing vents and equipment create transitions. A nearby leak may originate at a connection or somewhere higher up. The review should connect symptoms to a likely cause.
Select compatible materials
Membranes, metal pieces, fasteners and sealants need to work together. A bead of sealant is not a substitute for properly designed flashing. Movement and water flow must be considered.
Include finishing in the scope
Ask whether copings will be retained or replaced, which connections will be rebuilt and how wall junctions will be handled. These details allow proposals to be compared fairly.
Points to assess
- Membrane upstands and terminations
- Metal joints, fasteners and overlaps
- Connections to masonry and equipment
