Does your tar and gravel roof need attention? Understand its condition, possible repairs and what to plan when transitioning to a new membrane.
Inspecting beneath the gravel protection
Gravel protects the covering but can also conceal defects. Bare areas, debris near drains and repeated repairs warrant an assessment. A photograph alone cannot establish the condition of concealed layers.
Repair or a different system?
The choice depends on the extent of damage, moisture within the assembly and connection details. Age is a clue, not a diagnosis. A localized repair can be discussed when the rest of the roof is sound.
Planning a TPO or modified-bitumen replacement
A conversion requires a defined removal scope, debris management and substrate preparation. Slopes, drains and flashing heights also need review. Simply covering a wet roof does not address the underlying cause.
Points to assess
- Aggregate protection and exposed surfaces
- Signs of moisture beneath the layers
- Scope of a repair or change of roof system
